The exhibition will consist of 3 modules:
1 – Pioneers of Oceanography (King Dom Carlos I, and Oceanographer Magalhães Ramalho);
2 – Mário Ruivo – the first Portuguese in the deep sea (1956 Deep Sea campaign of the NRP Faial and the bathyscap FNRSIII;
3 – Deep sea for the future (the campaigns of EMEPC).
The exhibition will have as a central element the missions of the Batiscafo FNRS III in Portugal, in 1956, and a time line of the exploration of the Deep Sea (yesterday-today-tomorrow).
The central material of the exhibition will be the photos taken by Professor Mário Ruivo during the bathyscaphe mission in Portugal.
The exhibition will be installed in the central vestibule of the second floor of Gare Marítima de Alcântara (marking the 75th anniversary of its inauguration on July 17, 1943), without prejudice to the use of the first floor foyer, namely to announce the Exhibition and information about the ROV “Luso”, which will be installed near the entrance of the building.
The exhibition will be inaugurated on September 17, 2018, under the “Ocean Meeting”, which will run from September 17 to 21.
The exhibition will use 20 structures in varnished riga wood with 200 x 200 cm, in which the panels will be placed with information and iconography. It is also planned to install two self-supporting structures of larger size (200 x 350 x 50 cm). It is also considered the need for projectors that allow adequate illumination of the panels.
The exhibition will also use audiovisual elements (such as dives of different types and depth) and museological equipment to be provided by the Portuguese Navy.
The exhibition will produce a catalog of 64 pages (in Portuguese and English) and leaflets (triptychs) in Portuguese, Spanish and English.
