Eivind Rabben joined Hambros Bank Ltd in 1984 from Durham University Business School, where he obtained a M.Sc. in Management Studies following undergraduate studies at University of Newcastle upon Tyne (B.Sc. Marine Engineering). He greatly enjoyed these twin town Universities and student life. The monotony of engineering subjects was interesting when later compared with the liberal academic freedom of economics, marketing, computer simulation and psychology.
Earlier he graduated from the Norwegian Royal Navy Officer School/BSKA in 1975 followed by 3 years varied and hugely enjoyable service as Main Gunnery Commander, Firearms and Ballistics Officer and a member of the Officer Recruit Selection Board/BSKA, serving in the North and South of Norway during the late Cold War Years. In his younger life, he sailed as a deck and engine rating and was later employed by shipowners, shipyards and pool-operators.
Eivind accepted an offer to join Hambros Bank straight from Durham University Business School in 1984. Following a graduate-training programme, he worked in both the Shipping and Scandinavian Divisions. His responsibility was related to a wide variety of lending, structured finance and mergers and acquisitions for Scandinavian and worldwide Shipping, Offshore and Industrial Clients. He was also active in acquiring or merging government privatised shipping companies. He was appointed main board Director of Hambros Bank in 1988 and until his resignation in June 1998 to establish EC Hambro Rabben & Partners, was the Head of the Project Finance and Shipping Division. Over the past 30 years, he has focused on the shipping/marine-services and offshore/oilfield-services corporate finance and M&A.
